Prompt Weighting
A technique in AI image generation that assigns different levels of emphasis or de-emphasis to specific words or phrases in the prompt — controlling which elements dominate the generated image.
What is Prompt Weighting?
Different AI systems implement prompt weighting differently: Stable Diffusion uses parentheses for emphasis (word) = 1.1×, ((word)) = 1.21×, and brackets for de-emphasis [word] = 0.9×. DALL-E 3 responds to natural language emphasis ('very important that' or 'especially'). Midjourney uses ::2 notation after a word for weighting. For product photography prompts: emphasize critical elements ('(white background:1.5), (professional lighting:1.3), product centered') while de-emphasizing things to avoid ('[shadows:0.5], [props:0.3]'). Prompt weighting is an advanced technique that gives photographers precise control over AI generation outcomes.
