Ghost Mannequin
A post-processing technique for clothing and apparel photography where a mannequin is removed digitally, leaving the garment appearing to float with a filled interior showing collar, sleeves, and body shape.
What is Ghost Mannequin?
Ghost mannequin (also called 'invisible mannequin') creates the illusion of a human form inside clothing without requiring a model. The garment is photographed on a mannequin from the outside, and then the inside/back of the garment is photographed separately with the mannequin removed. These images are composited in Photoshop to create a filled garment with no visible mannequin. This is the industry standard for most fast-fashion and mid-tier apparel product photography — more professional than flat lays, more affordable than model shoots.
E-Commerce Relevance
Ghost mannequin photography is the professional standard for apparel e-commerce — showing garment shape, interior construction, and fit without model costs. It's expected at mid-to-high tier fashion retailers.
