Three-Point Lighting
A standard photography and video lighting setup using three light sources: a key light (main), a fill light (shadow reduction), and a back/rim light (separation from background).
What is Three-Point Lighting?
Three-point lighting is the foundation of professional product photography. The key light is the primary light source positioned at 45 degrees to the subject. The fill light (typically half the power of the key) softens shadows on the opposite side. The rim/back light separates the product from the background and adds depth. This setup creates the controlled, professional look seen in commercial product photography and is replicated by AI photography tools.
